The benefits of cacao are endless. This 100% authentic ceremonial grade criollo cacao comes straight from the Theobroma Cacao tree - and Theobroma, derived from the Greek, literally translates to ‘Food of the Gods’, containing the heart opening feminine medicine that we all need.

Invictus Apothecary’s 100% pure heirloom Criollo variety of cacao is grown in the rich soils of Satipo Province - located in the central Amazon rainforest - and ethically sourced from the Ashaninka People of Northern Peru.

Prepared and packed by hand in Western Australia, this cacao undergoes:

    • ABSOLUTELY NO heat treatment (not roasted)
    • ABSOLUTELY NO machine processing
    • ABSOLUTELY NO pestilence issues
    • ABSOLUTELY NO other quality and purity issues that are typical of store-bought cacao

Making it significantly higher in nutritional value, nootropics (memory and cognitive function enhancers) and adaptogens (natural stress adaptors).

    BENEFITS

    • Supports structure

Cacao supports our bones, connective and cardiac tissues, and muscles (including skeletal).

This cacao is naturally rich in various minerals and essential amino acids, as well as the major tissue salts and minerals that are used to support the structure and proper function of our skeletal muscle and cardiac tissues.

It also has the highest magnesium content of any whole food, an incredibly important mineral that most people are deficient in.

    • Boosts digestive system

Cacao is high in fibre, and along with its essential amino acids, nootropics, and neurotransmitters, it works to improve our cellular functions, aiding in the overall efficiency of the digestive process.

    • Detoxifying and deoxidising

Raw cacao, gram for gram, contains 40x the antioxidants of that found in blueberries. Why are antioxidants so important?

Free radicals are highly reactive and unstable oxidised molecules, and are trapped by antioxidants, which then reduces the risk of cells in our body undergoing oxidisation. Oxidative stress occurs when the free radicals and antioxidants in our bodies are out of balance, and can lead to cell and tissue damage, and therefore ageing. Long-term oxidative stress can contribute to cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, as well as many other chronic conditions.

The compounds in cacao also reduce blood pressure and clear blood vessel walls of fatty deposits (plaques) by assisting the inflammatory process; this reduces strain on the heart muscle and assists in whole-body oxygenation.

Terpenes are major biosynthetic building blocks, and have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antioxidant properties. In studies conducted on different plants, terpenes have been shown to attract pollinators, repel predators, and play a protective role (helping the plant to recover from damage and acting as a part of the plant’s immune system by repelling germs). Cacao contains the monoterpene ocimene, and so serves as a mild decongestant and expectorant (helps to clear mucus from the airways). Studies have suggested that ocimene in particular has highly effective anti-inflammatory properties, and may help to treat the symptoms of diabetes by inhibiting the proliferation of key enzymes.

Cacao also has a thermogenesis effect, a process which encourages the body to burn fats rather than store them.

    • Supports nervous system and stress levels

As this cacao is not roasted, it maintains it high levels of nootropics and neurotransmitters, which help to alleviate anxiety. These include:

Anandamide (stimulates a sense of bliss, happiness, and mental wellness)
Serotonin (defends against stress, and regulates mood and sleep)
Dopamine (the ‘reward chemical’, plays a significant role in mood and motivation levels; also has an effect on Kidney Jing, as there are dopamine receptors in the kidney)
Phenylethylamine (the ‘focus hormone’, boosts mood and energy levels by increasing the effects of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine)
Myrcene (an anti-inflammatory and analgesic phyto-cannabinoid; pain relieving and has a kind of ‘sedative effect’)
L-Theanine (regulates the nervous system; helps with anxiety and stress levels, as well as focus, sleep, and relaxation)
Linalool (a powerful terpene that promotes sleep by regulating an overactive nervous system; has a kind of ‘sedative effect’)
      • Enhances cellular functions and stem cell production

This cacao contains a compound called epicatechin, which has been shown to stimulate the production of stem cells and thereby promote tissue regeneration and improve overall cellular health. It is found in trace amounts in green tea and dark chocolate, and may help with:

      • Muscle growth and strength (athletic performance overall)
      • Increasing nitric oxide production (for improved vascularity, blood flow and endurance levels)
      • Alleviating insulin sensitivity (by regulating blood sugar levels and stimulation muscle protein synthesis)
      • Lowering cholesterol levels (due to its antioxidant properties)
      • Improving brain and heart health
      • Boosts energy levels

Cacao is a great alternative to caffeine that won’t result in a crash. The energy boost it provides is derived from the synergetic actions on the central nervous system, and not from squeezing the adrenals (like caffeine does).

Theobromine - the principle alkaloid of Theobroma Cacao - acts on smooth muscle tissue and promotes relaxation, vasodilation, and a higher response rate in comparison to caffeine.

In fact, consuming cacao - and therefore theobromine - regularly can allow the theobromine to bind to adenosine receptors in the brain, which can dramatically improve sleep quality.

      INGREDIENTS

100% ceremonial grade Criollo Cacao, raw and organic - the way nature intended it.

      HOW?

Choose your dose. Start with 20-30g, or for the full experience, take 42g. Or, choose your own dose.

Add your desired amount to a mug, with 1tsp of your sweetener of choice. Add a dash of filtered water.

Pour over your desired amount of hot filtered water and/or milk (we recommend plant-based).

Fold the ingredients with a spoon until smooth. Then, use a stick mixer to combine and make creamy (this will also keep the cacao's energetic properties in tact). Top up with hot filtered water if needed.

Add any of the following if you wish:

      Coconut cream.
Medicinal tonic herbs and mushrooms, e.g. any of our Life Cykel mushroom extracts.
      Essential oils.
Spices: cinnamon, cayenne, vanilla, and sea salt OR pumpkin spice.

      Enjoy!
